Marina Piccola, Sorrento: ferries, beach and the port

The layout in one pass: hydrofoils and ferries berth at the pier at the foot of the cliff; the NLG ticket office sits on Piazza Marinai d'Italia beside the water; west of the pier a thin strip of volcanic sand runs along the base of the rock, broken up by wooden platforms suspended over the water for sunbathing and swimming, in VisitCampania's words. Restaurants and bars line the port road, and the official listing notes live music and aperitifs at sunset in the evening.

The other thing Marina Piccola is, for one day a week per ship, is the cruise tender pier: ships anchoring in the bay run their tenders to this waterfront, which is why some mornings carry cruise volume that has nothing to do with the ferry timetable. Capri is the headline route and the only one with a year-round sheet: the first departure of the day is the 08:30, a second boat runs at 09:00 daily from 1 April to 3 November 2026, the last boat out is 17:05, and the last return from Capri is 17:45 daily. On top of every ferry ticket and every boat tour, Capri town charges a landing fee of $5.80 (€5) per person from 1 April to 31 October and $2.90 (€2.50) from November to March, set by the island's council.

Capri never stops: NLG lists the 08:30 first departure year-round and the last return from the island at 17:45 daily, so a grey-sea November day is still a timetable-viable Capri day. The coast routes are the ones that shrink. The NLG Sorrento to Positano route runs from 1 April to 3 November 2026 on the operator's own sheet, and Positano Jet publishes no season dates we could read this run, which in practice means plan any Positano crossing between April and early November and treat a November-to-March boat as a bonus you confirm the evening before at the port office.

When the boats stop, the coast does not gain a second scheduled service this page can print a fare for: the SITA bus is the land alternative, and its ticket price was not published by any source we could read on 12 September 2026 (the EAV fare pages were unreachable), so buy at a tabacchi before boarding and carry coins. One seasonal number does move in the traveller's favour: the Capri landing fee drops from $5.80 (€5) to $2.90 (€2.50) per person from 1 November to 31 March, the island council's own split, and it is charged on top of every crossing whatever the season. How the morning should run: buy online the night before where the route allows, walk down by the route in the comparison table above, and be at the gate 30 to 40 minutes before a high-summer departure. The office sells in person; the card machines at the pier handle the rest. Waiting for a ferry well

The port road holds bars with tables facing the boats, and the sunset aperitif crowd VisitCampania mentions arrives as the afternoon sailings thin out. Luggage leaves itself nowhere: there is no left-luggage service we could source at the port, so plan the beach hour after the boat, not before it.

The quote that matters: it is difficult to expect to spend less than 70 euros for a day at the beach here in low season, and high season runs higher. Sunbed and umbrella rates vary by establishment and are not published by any of the four clubs online (VisitCampania confirms none sells through booking platforms like spiagge.it). What that buys: a bed on the strip, service from the club's bar or restaurant, and the wooden platforms over the water.

Leonelli's and Marameo offer walkways, job chairs and accessible toilets, with staff assistance usually available, per the official listing.

The free-sand alternative is honest to state: Marina Grande across the bay charges less for the same day and keeps part of its strip free. If the budget covers a lido day anyway, Marameo is the club closest to the pier (about 500 m along the water) and the one we would pick for a ferry-day swim, because the walk back to the gate is shortest.

Sleeping on the bay
